Sheldon Police Department Now Hiring Full-Time and Reserve Peace Officers

The Sheldon Police Department is seeking to establish a list of eligible peace officer candidates to fill anticipated openings in 2020. This application will be valid for positions that open in 2020.

Applicants must meet minimum hiring standards as set by the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy Council. Applicants must possess a High School Diploma. Associate Degree or above are preferred. All interested applicants will be required to submit an application. The deadline to apply is Friday, February 7, 2020 at 4:30 P.M.

Lateral transfers will be considered. Full-time peace officer applicants who are not currently certified by ILEA will undergo physical agility and POST testing, currently scheduled for Friday, February 21, 2020. Applicants should report to the Sheldon Police Department located at 416 9th Street-Sheldon, Iowa 51201 on Friday, February 21, 2020 at 8:00 A.M. Full-time peace officer applicants not currently certified in Iowa must pass physical agility and POST testing in order to continue in the application process.

The City of Sheldon Police Department hereby gives public notice, in compliance with the Iowa Veteran’s Preference Law under Iowa Code Chapter 35C, regarding the police department’s intent to establish a hiring list for full-time peace officer and reserve officer positions within the department.

The City offers a competitive salary ranging from $42,334 -$58,575 for full-time positions.  Starting wage is dependent on experience and qualifications.  The City of Sheldon offers competitive employee benefits.
